Alive and Well

The time is now to take advantage of life. Carpe Diem correct? That is the notion, to seize the day, live in the present, breath and accept the fact that we are alive and well. Alive and well is obviously debatable. The aliveness can fade away to the growing numbness stimulated by this stale society. How can we be alive yet feel nothing for our neighbor? How can we be alive when we don’t recognize how our own consumerism, our habits, fueled by the American Dream, fortifies the cell walls of the neglected, the lost, vulnerable and marginalized across the globe of the American perspective? Yes we think of it as our own. It is disposable, dispensable, a commodity for the satisfaction of the elite.
Fuck the notion of working for a good decent salary muttered through the lips of an upper middleclass white man.  What is decent? How can I, a product of this class, accept the definition of decency produced from someone who has no idea what it means to starve, to live without electricity, running water, access to water, carpeted floors.  I desire to work for dignity rather than a flawed definition of decency in the form of monetary compensation. I personally do not want to live, thrive, and pass through life on the broken backs of the global campesinos who endure, waiting and praying that we change our ways. The struggle has to begin every day. Breath, inhale, know that I am alive and well and can make a difference.
