One Fine Day

One Fine Day

Dear Yulia
Leibowitz

Would you take a ride with me
On 55-South?

You pick the exit
Anywheresville

We’ll find a diner or truck stop
Burger King even

We’ll take out our two dollar notebooks
Write in silence

(DOWN WITH THE
BLOGOSPHERE!)

Then eat a cup cake or drink cold coffee
Read aloud to each other every word without stopping

Recall something stunning from 5th grade
Revel in grandparents who lived into their nineties

Recite favorite lines by Marina Tsvetaeva
Restore our faith in humanity for one day

I can see you already
Squinching up your face in puzzlement

But why wouldn’t I want to spend two hours
Of my short life on earth

Doing this with you
Ms. Incendiary Serenity?
